If You Love Jesus, Go Tell It on the Mountain!

If You Love Jesus, Go Tell It on the Mountain!

go tell it on the mountainIn 1907 John Wesley Work Jr. Kept the tradition of his great middle name and composed the song Go tell It on the mountain. Go tell it on the mountain may have very simple words, but the truth found within is profound. Most people know the first stanzas but few know the last. The words are simple and yet very applicational.

While shepherds kept their watching
Over silent flocks by night,
Behold throughout the heavens,
There shone a holy light:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

The shepherds feared and trembled
When lo! above the earth
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed our Saviour’s birth:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

Down in a lowly manger
Our humble Christ was born
And God sent us salvation,
That blessed Christmas morn:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

He made me a watchman
Upon the city wall,
And if I am a Christian,
I am the least of all.
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

You are a watchman standing upon the city wall. You know the King is returning with an army ready to devastate all opposition. Not only do you know that Jesus is returning to destroy his enemy, you also know that he has peace terms. He is willing to forgive anyone and anything as long as each heart humbles itself and gives their total allegiance to Christ.

If you are a Christian you have experienced this forgiveness and reconciliation, and you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you will be part of the kingdom that is coming. Are you thankful? Are you excited about it? Then stand up tall and shout to the world that the Savior was born, lived a perfect life, died the death we deserved and now is patiently giving people time to repent and surrender to Him. There is nothing to be afraid of, tell your family member, neighbor or friend about the Christ that is born!
